Diversity Champion Award for Private Sector

Christina Riley is a site-based planner at Kier, she transitioned from male to female while working at Balfour Beatty in 2014. During a time when the construction industry had no visible transgender role models, Christina became a visible advocate for LGBTIQ inclusion. She chaired the LGBT & Allies Network at Balfour Beatty for over 3 years and launched the LGBT+ and mental health toolbox talks. Christina has given over 45 diversity and intersectionality talks to the construction industry and beyond. Last year she was invited to do a talk on diversity at UK Construction Week, the UK’s largest construction event. In addition, Christina has completed charity bike rides across Britain and has raised over £7,500 for Stonewall, Mind, Refuge and the Princes Trust. Since joining Kier Christina was honoured to be asked to be Vice Chair of its LGBT Network.
