EQUAL, HSE’s disabled staff network continually drives meaningful change. They are positively engaged with the business and have a pragmatic approach that makes them an exemplar for other networks, both in HSE and beyond. Combining a successful programme of events with providing personal support for those staff and managers who request it, EQUAL uses technology as they seek to improve communication with a geographically dispersed, often peripatetic workforce. Across the Civil Service EQUAL is seen as an exemplar of how disabled staff networks can engage with corporate functions, and explained their approach at the Civil Service Disability Network. More widely they are leading lights in the Purple Space networking community. Their outreach to other networks means they supported the re-vitalisation of HSE’s gender equality and LGBT+ networks providing advice, as well as support for network events.
