Unemployed Londoners should be encouraged and supported to consider a career with the London Ambulance Service, according to a new report published today by the London Assembly’s Health Committee.

Assembly Members says that such an initiative would help the LAS recruit sufficient staff to cope with growing demand for its services.

They also call for the LAS to voluntarily adopt City Hall’s workplace diversity standard to help ensure the service reflects and understands London’s different communities.

Dr Onkar Sahota AM, Chair of the Committee said: “Diversity in the workforce and partnership with diverse communities would benefit the LAS greatly.

“It’s important it reflects and understands the many groups of people that make up such a multi-cultural city.

“It’s important that as demand grows, Londoners have an ambulance service that continues to provide excellent service which reflects London and its life.”
