From growing up in a remote village of Pakistan, to standing at No10 Downing Street in recognition of his work professional and voluntary work. The remarkable journey of Umer Khan, presently District Superintendent and Greater Manchester Police Firearms Commander, is one to inspire those who believe to be successful; one must be well-born or have graduated from a prestigious institution. Arriving in the UK aged 11, overcoming challenges and hurdles Umer joined GMP in 1995, his hard work, determination and achievements touching the lives of many; from introducing community policing following the infamous Oldham riots, to leading on Consequence Management in Rochdale, maintaining law, order and cohesion during the high profile Child Sexual Exploitation Enquiry. Following terrorist attacks in Europe and in Manchester, Umer led on the @WeStandTogether campaign, adopted as the national response to countering Hate, Terrorism and Extremism.
