Lifetime Achiever Award

Alan Bell has spent over 20 years training people, businesses and organisations, particularly vulnerable people and survivors of violence (women and children) in confidence building Personal Safety skills and Self Defence techniques. Setting up his social enterprise in 1997, Alan’s courses not only increase confidence but also lower anxiety levels and improve self-esteem allowing participants to live richer, fuller lives. In 2013, this social enterprise became a charity – The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety. To date, Alan has helped train over 5,000 individuals making significant changes to their lives. He has developed courses specifically for the blind / visually impaired, LGBT, BME and people with dwarfism. This trailblazer was a finalist in RNIB’s Vision Pioneer “Teacher of the Year” 2017 awards and took his charity to win The Herald Diversity Awards “Diversity in the Third Sector” award 2018.
