Diversity Champion Award for Education Sector

Dr Zainab Khan has lobbied for, designed and delivered “The Link” Bristol’s largest Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) professional networking event. She also established Equity, a targeted positive action programme. Equity is a proactive response to structural disadvantage and national labour market statistics on the performance and progression of BAME graduates. Equity comprises monthly training days which include innovative talent development coaching with pioneering enterprise education. Equity is entirely delivered by BAME professionals and entrepreneurs. Every month Zainab hosts large networking events featuring high profile BAME speakers in order to engage Bristol in an on-going conversation about race. Zainab has sparked culture change across the University community, tirelessly advocating for improvements to all aspects of BAME student and staff experience. Due to its success, Zainab is leading work to establish an Equity Office and extend the programme across the Institution.
