Up next in our series of webinars sharing best practice from the UK’s Most Inclusive Employers, Inclusive Companies CEO Paul Sesay will be joined by The Calico Group.

The Calico Group jumped an astonishing 20 places from the previous year to rank 5th on the Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers List 2020/21. They are a group of innovative charities and businesses working together to make social profit, rather than financial profit, this is the driving force behind their wide range of high quality services.

Calico Makes a Difference to People’s Lives. Their submission showcased understanding that everyone, both colleagues and customers are unique, recognising and celebrating individual differences. Calico have shown clear dedication to work on increasing representation at board level, and are constantly developing constantly from colleagues and customers.

In this webinar, Paul Sesay will explore Calico’s D&I journey with CEO Anthony Duerden, Learning & Development Manager Carmel Roberts, and Helen Gauder, Managing Director of SafeNet, as they delve into Calico’s unique vision and how putting community first and having innovative solutions for colleagues cemented them as one of the UK’s most inclusive organisations.


Helen Gauder

Helen is Managing Director of SafeNet, a Domestic Abuse charity based in the North West and one of the companies in the Calico Group. Helen has been in post for 25 years and during that time she has led the development of a diverse range of domestic abuse services across Lancashire and Greater Manchester and is dedicated to promoting safe environments and healthy relationships for all. Helen takes an intersectional approach to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of life and in the workplace. Helen is an NLP Master Practitioner, an ILM Executive Coach and is DAPA (Domestic Abuse Prevention Advocate) qualified.


Anthony Duerden 

Anthony has been the Chief Executive of Calico for 7 years. He started with Calico in 2000 and he returned to The Calico Group as Director of Customer Services in 2011 after working for Community Gateway Association for three years as Head of Property Services. Anthony, who is a qualified accountant, had previously worked at Calico as Head of Finance before he made the move into Asset Management. Anthony is a former member of the Board of Lancashire Housing Partnership Ltd. Anthony is also a White Ribbon UK ambassador.


Carmel Roberts

Carmel has worked for Calico for 13 years. As well as being L&D manager, Carmel leads on employee Wellbeing, and Diversity and Inclusion for the Group. She is an ally for Greater Manchester’s Women and Girls Equity Panel.
