Touchstone, a mental health and wellbeing service provider based in Yorkshire, has earned second place in the Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers Report for 2024/25. Touchstone’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment across its workforce and service provision is evident through various initiatives, partnerships and policies. The key achievements and practices that reflect Touchstone’s standing as an inclusive and community-focused organisation are outlined here to inspire other organisations.

Leadership Dedication to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

  • Touchstone’s CEO is a strong advocate for DEI, having started as a service user himself. The CEO and senior leadership team play active roles in championing DEI with each leading or supporting specific initiatives, from chairing staff network groups to mentoring underrepresented employees. This includes participation in the “Allies Together” group and leading training sessions on anti-discrimination.
  • The Operations Director for Inclusion serves as a full-time DEI lead, reporting directly to the CEO and Board of Trustees. This role oversees Touchstone’s Diversity Inclusion Forum and ensures DEI principles are integrated into all organisational processes​.

Embedding Inclusion in Organisational Practices

  • Touchstone provides comprehensive training on DEI, with mandatory courses such as anti-discrimination, unconscious bias and cultural competency. All policies related to dignity and respect are widely accessible to staff and new hires undergo a robust induction that includes familiarisation with DEI policies​.
  • Accessibility for People with Disabilities: Touchstone holds “Disability Confident Leader” status and takes pride in a workplace designed to support individuals with disabilities, including ergonomic adaptations, ground-floor workspaces and dementia-friendly facilities. Reasonable adjustments are standard across recruitment and daily work practices, further showcasing Touchstone’s commitment to inclusion both internally and externally​.
