Introduction
United Utilities (UU), a FTSE 100 listed company providing water and wastewater services to over seven million customers and 200,000 businesses across the North West of England, has earned fourth place in the Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers Index for 2024/25. This report highlights U U’ commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through its comprehensive strategies and initiatives, reflecting its dedication to creating an inclusive environment for employees and the communities it serves.
From Crewe to Carlisle, UU employs over 6,400 people and their offices, plus water and wastewater treatment sites span the whole of the region. In 2023, UU appointed their first ED&I Manager to help focus on delivering their ED&I strategy across the company. They also published their first ED&I Report, which combined their journey to date, 2030 goals, plus, their commitments for the next 12 months. All of this, plus the promotion of their All About Me diversity data survey, has helped to give continued focus in United Utilities to become a truly inclusive and diverse workplace for colleagues now and in the future.
In 2024, United Utilities was recognised as one of the top 15 FTSE company performers when it comes to women in leadership. For 2023/24, it was included, once again, in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index, which tracks the performance of public companies committed to transparency in gender-data reporting. United Utilities is one of 484 companies across 45 countries and regions committed to more equal and inclusive workplaces. Additionally, it has been listed within the Top 10 companies within FTSE 100 under the REDI Index 2024, being recognised on how it integrates religion within the workplace.
