The two approaches come together to create powerful change for our associates right now, and our community outreach programmes seek to create change for the future.

I have worked at Capital One since 2011, and during this time had the pleasure of meeting and working alongside fantastic people.

In 2019, I established our employee network group, REACH, which is focused to support Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority employees. REACH stands for Race, Equality and Cultural Heritage. Leading this group, alongside others, has been a privilege. I’m grateful that Capital One allows employee network groups to bring like-minded people together. Over the years, we have celebrated different festivities such as Eid and Diwali, we have shared lived experiences and we have had support from our ally members.

Jennie Koo

I’m Jennie Koo, a multi disciplined Risk Professional with 20+ years experience in Financial Services. I’m a serial volunteer of Chinese descent, British born – educated, residing and working in the UK. I’m also a new mum to my 1 year old son.

Alongside leading a team of Risk Specialists, I am also the co-lead of Capital One’s UK gender parity Business Resource Group empowher. Through our social responsibility commitments, I also get the opportunity to inspire the next generation to explore careers in finance by participating in talks with schools, debunk myths around educational specialisms and showcase that a career in financial services isn’t about suits and ties. Being able to incorporate my passions in progressing gender parity, supporting others and improving social mobility with work, makes it easier to be true to my personal values.

I’m also supported with my external volunteer commitments to Women in Banking & Finance as a board member, The Prince’s Trust as a mentor and as a Trustee for the charity Only A Pavement Away. All things that make me who I am.

Since joining Capital One in 2018, I also become a mother for the first time. Something I’m not sure I would have had the confidence to do previously. The thought of taking a break in my career through maternity leave and then returning to work after such a significant life event was also somewhat seamless. The support and understanding of my need to be kept informed, and facilities such as a family room for me to safely and comfortably express and store breastmilk for my son on returning to work, made the transition to working parent easier than I could have imagined. It’s still tough being a parent, but having a supportive employer who appreciates the challenges life may throw at us once in a while, really counts.

I’m proud of what Capital One invests in its associates and in the community.
