UK Power Networks
Ranked No.1 – 2024/2025
Introduction
Once again, cementing themselves in the top 10 for a fifth year running, UK Power Networks has climbed the index to be named the UK’s most Inclusive Employer. A comprehensive package of EDI initiatives has secured them the top spot for the first time ever, demonstrating continued progress.
UK Power Networks is the country’s biggest electricity distributor delivering power to 8.5 million homes and businesses across London, the South East and the East of England. It is responsible for keeping the lights on, safely and sustainably, for 19 million people, including those living in the most vulnerable circumstances.
UK Power Networks’ continued focus on EDI has seen them make significant and sustained progress in 2024. They introduced new initiatives, whilst embedding their existing practices, to ensure that they are making a demonstrable and tangible positive impact on the lives of employees and those in the communities they serve. Since their last submission, UK Power Networks has successfully achieved reaccreditation in both the National Equality Standard and Investors in People Platinum. These external benchmarks, along with employee feedback, have influenced their approach in 2024 to move from equality to equity.
To drive inclusion, they have introduced Directorate D&I Dashboards to provide visibility and the identification of possible barriers for minority groups. Taking a data driven approach has allowed them to implement targeted activity such as the introduction of neurodiversity allies and training for staff on how to better support employees with neurodiverse conditions. Continuing their work to support hard-to-reach communities they have launched a new pre-employment programme Power Among Us, which resulted in five NEET individuals securing permanent employment at UK Power Networks.
It is evident that UK Power Networks is firmly committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in all areas of its work, as demonstrated throughout their submission.
